My job is to executive produce you as the storyteller and leader you are
“Jay doesn’t really help people create a talk, though that is an outcome. He helps them better understand themselves and what they think. There's a lot of business power in that beyond speaking.”
—Devin Bramhall (agency growth advisor and fractional CMO)
“I’m getting so many more passionate replies to my work.”
“Jay’s commitment to craft is contagious. Even rarer, he’s skilled at breaking down and explaining how to assemble specific ingredients for achieving greater resonance in your work.”
—Jenny Blake (globally touring speaker, 2x author, podcaster with 2m+ downloads)
I’ve also created brand partnerships and influencer programs with organizations like these:

“You pull out the raw ideas (even when kicking and screaming) and help hone it into something brilliant. Holy dude you’re good.”
—Sarah Stockdale (CEO of Growclass)
No “magic systems.”
I’m your personal thought partner & executive producer, not a course creator.
You’re hiring me, not buying the promise of a “simple five-step system.” I take a framework-forward approach with clients to get out what’s in your head and heart, shape it into the right material capable of differentiating, resonating, and driving results, and constantly personalize what you need as your dedicated collaborator.

I love helping clients with “punch-ups,” or rapid improvements through a short burst of work together.
Perfect for when you have an important date or opportunity coming up or you just want to kickstart some momentum and ideas to make something better fast.
Price: $3,500
Included:
2 hours of calls (recorded) to improve 1 project of focus (your speech, your premise and message, or something else)
1 video review with notes for our project of focus
All relevant templates and documentation I can share relevant to your work
Not included:
I am not able to prep for our calls or provide any support between our interactions during this type of engagement. It is truly about real-time, rapid improvement across a short timeframe, during which I support you with everything I’ve got when we speak!
Punch-ups for your message and premise would center on a core argument template you fill out, which we then use our call times + my video review to improve rapidly, ending with a far better message and story you are trying to share with the world (better = tighter, clearer, more unique to you but valuable to the audience you serve). I also ensure clear next-steps for you to deploy your premise publicly as a big idea you own + lens through which you press your messaging, content, offers, and other elements of your work.
Punch-ups for speeches might look like these examples:
Sarah Stockdale is the CEO of Growclass, which sells training and education to marketers. Steve Pratt is an industry legend in podcasting who wrote his first book after selling his agency. Both had important dates looming to give their talks, and both worked with me to develop their talks in real-time on our calls. Sarah needed a keynote for a high-stakes yet atypical type of storytelling event, while Steve needed his companion talk for his book.
But while they each brought slides and a draft of a talk, I also worked with the great Justin Moore, a sponsorship coach for veteran creators, to develop his first-ever keynote. We had no material to view together, but we drafted the core of the speech in our first hour together. He then pitched it to the largest creator economy event in his target list, and they accepted him for a keynote speech after 10 years of him being an attendee or breakout speaker only.
All 3 have continued giving the same speeches to this day.

Given the nature of punch-ups, we can also skip the exploratory call and talk dates. Email jay@unthinkablemedia.com to do so.

This is my core offering focused on in-depth and personalized work together one-on-one over a period of time.
This often centers on identifying and developing your big idea in the form of a tightly articulated and differentiated premise, driven by the core narrative argument we build together as a lens to fuel your entire platform.
Based on your goals and specifics, we might also work on aspects of your overall IP and thought leadership. Past clients have hired me most especially to work with them on signature speech development and improvements, overall messaging and positioning, signature frameworks and the offers they lead to, and podcasts or other high-stakes storytelling initiatives.
Price: $10,500 for 6 weeks, $15,500 for 12 weeks
Includes:
Every-other-week 1:1 calls (60 min each, recorded and shared)
Access to me between our calls (for questions, work reviews, brainstorming, and more; I’ll often develop pieces of the work privately and share via text + video explainers to push us fwd with clarity)
Shared documentation and templates for ongoing use well after we’ve wrapped
You’ll walk away with:
A clear and highly resonant premise (the big idea you seek to own through a key project or everywhere)
The core narrative argument drafted and documented internally, which led to the premise’s tight articulation and explanation
The deployment of your premise and IP to a key project or projects we discuss (typically with my clients, that means your speeches, your overall messaging, specific elements of your IP like signature stories and frameworks, and even sellable offers)
Clear next steps for how to proceed after we’re finished
“Premise development” is at the core of this work but may be new to some. Here are two great examples of premise development in-action:
Mary Knox Miller offers content strategy and production services for her clientele. She loves to share her expertise and has lots of good ideas, including one that drives her most: “speak human-first.” We turned that tagline into a core narrative argument, so now she doesn’t just share expertise, she makes the case for her premise and has a higher impact everywhere she goes. We also built her signature framework and modeled different ways to turn it into sellable offers, together. Read about my work with her here.
Michelle Warner is a veteran business designer who helps clients with their business models and their relationship marketing strategies. She wanted to stop being a “best kept secret” and own her message through a distinct premise. We turned a recurring concept she loves discussing into a coherent argument, then made it the premise of her podcast and used it to fuel her virtual talks, social media, and other places she defends her premise and IP publicly. Read about my work with Michelle here.

I help business leaders become stronger speakers and storytellers. The goal isn’t to get in front of your audience. The goal is to ensure they care. Together, we’ll clarify + differentiate your message, craft your thinking and expertise into a distinct premise and IP you own, and develop signature speeches and stories to influence, inspire, and drive results.
Don’t market more. Matter more.
When you matter more, you need to hustle for attention less.
Compete on the impact of your ideas, Not the volume of your marketing
The impact of an idea is directly proportional to its value + its originality. It’s time to escape the commodity cage.
✅ You’re smart enough. ✅ You’re expert enough. ❌ But your IP may not be strong enough.
Where are you on the Idea Impact Matrix?
“Jay helped me serve a bigger audience & build my platform in my own unique way.”
“It felt like he had known me for years. He made my message super clear and powerful to both me and others — waaaaaaay better than I could have done alone. In a few short conversations, he totally understood my voice and gave honest feedback throughout.”
—Shawn Shepheard (business coach, speaker, and podcaster)
Hi, I’m Jay.
My mission is to help others make what matters to their careers, companies, and communities. My premise is that we should all prioritize resonance over reach to grow our businesses, audiences, and causes.
I was an early voice in the rise of content marketing, emphasizing quality, creativity, and storytelling in jobs at Google, HubSpot, a tiny startup, and a premier VC firm (NextView Ventures).
Since starting my business in 2016, I’ve written books, built a six-figure speaking business (with speeches in 25 states and 3 countries), partnered with brands like Mailchimp, Salesforce, GoDaddy, Wistia, Podia, and Help Scout, and consulted some of the most incredible voices leading the way in their respective niches, helping them turn their thinking into IP and their IP into speeches, shows, messaging, and thriving businesses.
Storytellers know how to do one thing better than the rest: ensure others care
It starts with going beyond “creating content” to learn to craft your thinking into IP: your big idea and all the thinking behind it. This empowers you to develop, distribute, own, and monetize your ideas.
This is about so much more than building a following. This is about making an impact.
Despite what internet gurus would have you believe, you don’t need clickbait or grimy tactics. You need to dig down to the root of your perspective, develop that into readily apparent language and ideas, and distribute that through thought leadership and storytelling. In short, substance can still stand out—if it arrives with story.
Imagine a room full of your ideal audience, and the person they mention most when discussing their work is you.
Your peers, your industry’s influencers and analysts, and your ideal customers or clients are all together. They swap notes, discuss trends, and share their opinions — but a handful of them can’t stop repeating the same phrase before they speak:
“It’s like [YOUR NAME] says…”
They quote you, cite your ideas, and share your frameworks and stories. Those who don’t know you whip out their phones and join your email list. This represents something more important than followers: actual influence. You didn’t resort to hollow stunts to juice reach. You shared thinking capable of resonating. (That makes the reach bit easier and stickier.)
You can’t “own your audience.” But you can own an idea in their minds.
That’s the power of a well-developed premise and the surrounding IP that helps you grow.
That’s the power of a storyteller.
You Need a peer-level collaborator and idea partner — not a “simple system” printing generic work
👋 Just like my client, Michelle Warner.
Michelle is a “best kept secret” among entrepreneurs who sell services for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, helping them craft their business models and their marketing strategies.
Her audience is discerning, and Michelle needs to be even more choosy so before hiring an outside voice to help her.
“Enter, Jay” she says.
“He's just that good. He knows what's gonna work, and he also knows how to make it work for YOU. Hire Jay. He gets it, and he's worth it.”
Finally say what you’ve been trying to say — and draw a coherent circle around everything you do
👋 Just like my client, Susan Boles.
Susan is a fractional COO and CFO who also sells bootcamps and other educational offerings to help her clients.
But things felt stagnant and more difficult than in previous eras of her own business.
“The more we worked together, the easier it made everything else in my business. It’s all starting to connect.”
“I can see how my next offering comes from this. I can see how content comes from this because it’s not just tons of random things, but all beats of the premise. I can see how my sales are easier because of this.”
