The myth of “great”

Great. Amazing. High quality.

Assume the role of a creator for a moment. The moment you do, it’s helpful to assume that those words don’t actually exist. They only exist for consumers. In other words, they’re adjectives that get assigned by whoever we serve — not anyone else, and certainly not ourselves.

It isn’t for us to decide if our work is top-notch. For us, there is no final state of having made quality things. There is no “great.” There is only “better.” There is only forward, only improvement, all the time.

So … better to focus on being better than being great.
