Stop acting like experts, start acting like investigators
Experts care about absolutes. What works in general or on average?
But investigators care about evidence. They ask the right questions to figure out the answers. In fact, if you ask them what the answer is, they don’t leap to say something. They pause. They calmly say, “I don’t have the answer. But I know how to figure it out.”
What if we no longer sought the answer in some kind of theoretical sense and instead preferred to test and learn firsthand? Better yet, what if we stopped caring about everyone else’s “right” answers and started asking ourselves better questions?
What if we stopped acting like experts and started to act like investigators?
