Not quite but almost

Silicon Valley has the perception of being the best area to build and invest in tech companies. Los Angeles then took on the moniker Silicon Beach. New York’s tech community tried Silicon Alley. Several regions in the Midwest use Silicon Prairie.

I attended Trinity College in Hartford, part of the NESCAC (our conference). The NESCAC is also known as the Mini Ivies, as in Ivy League schools (like Yale, Harvard, and Brown).

Now here’s the question: Why would you brand yourself as “not quite the best” or “almost” or “not exactly what you’re looking for”? Why would you create your identity based on what you are not, instead of what you are? And how often do we do this in our own lives?

Maybe we shouldn’t.
