How to quit Twitter (when you’re just too addicted)

To read Twitter, I don’t use my feed but instead a private list of people I learn from. That way, if someone is inflammatory or obnoxious, or simply posts too much, I don’t need to unfollow them. I just remove them from the list. Nobody knows.

Lists are also safe from Twitter’s algorithm which promotes and surfaces content based on engagement, meaning the most extreme things bubble up. On your list, the most recent things posted are the most recent things listed.

Lastly, lists are also completely void of ads, which is just Chef’s Kiss perfection.

Want to kick your Twitter feed habit? Here’s your intermediary step: try a list. Maybe you don’t immediately stop consuming Twitter, but you can at least remove some of the more addicting and harmful aspects.
